Finding Time for Photography When Life Is Full: Motherhood, Creativity, and the Art of Showing Up

A young child standing, looking out at the city and sea, a quiet family moment, reflecting the balance between motherhood and creative life as a professional photographer.

There are moments when I sit down to write a new post, edit a gallery, or plan a shoot, and I realise how long it’s been since I last showed up here.

Not because the passion has faded.
Not because the work no longer matters.
But because life, in its fullest and loudest form, has been happening.

I am a photographer.
I am also a stay-at-home mum to an endlessly energetic three-year-old boy. And if you’ve ever lived inside that season of life, you know this: time doesn’t pass — it sprints.

Days are filled with movement, mess, questions, laughter, snacks, emotions, and the invisible labour of keeping a household running. By the time the house finally grows quiet, the creative energy that once flowed so freely often feels stretched thin.

And yet — the desire to create never disappears.

Photography has never been “something I do when I have time.”
It is how I see the world.
How I tell stories.
How I preserve moments that would otherwise slip past unnoticed.

The challenge isn’t lack of commitment — it’s capacity.

There’s a misconception that when creatives step back, it’s because they’ve stepped away. In reality, many of us are simply living deeply. Learning. Growing. Carrying seasons that demand more of us than we ever expected.

Motherhood, in particular, has reshaped the way I work — not diminished it.

It has sharpened my eye for fleeting expressions.
It has deepened my understanding of connection.
It has taught me how precious ordinary moments truly are.

What I create now comes from a place of lived experience, patience, and intention. I no longer rush to post for the sake of visibility. I choose to show up with purpose — when I can give my work the attention and respect it deserves.

This season has reminded me that professionalism isn’t measured by constant output. It’s measured by consistency of vision, by integrity, and by the quiet determination to keep going even when time feels scarce.

So if you’ve noticed fewer posts, fewer updates, or longer pauses — know that behind the scenes, the work is still alive. It’s evolving. It’s waiting for space to breathe.

Life may be full right now, but creativity doesn’t disappear in fullness — it transforms.

And I’m still here. Creating. Seeing. Telling stories — just in a season where time flies faster than ever.
